As I was surfing the internet for a topic I came across an article titled “Allowing drugs in some sports competitions will allow us to keep others clean.” It found this to be a very strange claim and decided to look more into it. After further looking into this claim I decided to make the topic of my paper “Should performance enhancing drugs be legal to use in sports.” In the paper I will be focusing on one of the most well known performance enhancers: anabolic steroids. I am completely against using steroids to improve your ability to play sports. There are people in working hard every single day to become the best in whatever sport they are playing and it is not fair to have someone come in and take short cuts to become the best. Some could …show more content…
As I was writing this paper I asked few people their thoughts on the subject. Most people agreed with the fact that steroids should be completely illegal in sporting events and people should have to rely on talent and hard work. One person said that they should legalize the steroids for everyone that way it would “even the playing field” SITE. Personally I can partially see where they can come up with the fact that it makes things even but if no one uses steroids it also makes it even. Also putting the aside that it would even out the playing field it can have horrible short and long term side effects on the body, making it legal could encourage people to try it and then damage their bodies.
Throughout my research I found some pros and cons to using steroids. A lot of the pro research I found wasn’t very fact based. As I was asking starting to outline my paper I was asking others thoughts on steroid use. One person (who wishes to have their name kept out of the paper) said that “Using steroids doesn’t mean you’re taking a short cut.” I found a study that did a ten week trial with four groups: one that didn’t take steroids or exercise, one

Luke Estlund Mrs. V. English 11 23 April 2024 Steroids Should Not Be Allowed In Sports Imagine a world where athletic greatness comes from the bottle, not from the heart. Should this be the future of sports? The use of steroids in sports bridges the gap between natural talent and artificially enhanced abilities, often with consequences. The impact of steroid use in competition has been a major debate among athletes for many years. While athletes should be free to improve their performance through performance enhancement drugs, performance enhancement drugs give an unfair advantage over others, are bad for the health of the human body, and diminishes the integrity of athletic achievements.…

I agree to this because because it proves how it shows the skill of the player and it is not just the steroids working to hit the ball. The steroids are not gonna just slow the ball down and make it stop, you may hit it harder but it is not gonna stop the ball right in front of you so you can hit a homerun. Baseball players have gains and losses by using them; yes, it will give them a little more of an edge but it kicks back a little of their health edge. It will maybe make them stronger on the outside but not on the inside, it could stunt their growth, they could gain aggression, or it could increase your rate at developing heart disease. On the contrast, you can also gain from using steroids, you can gain muscles, your endurance to work out is longer, and your body also creates more adrenaline.…

Some of these include the development of breasts, increased aggressiveness, dizziness, and joint and muscle pain. One really plays a game of chance when taking steroids because of the long list of side effects and health issues. Another risk players take when they own steroids is the fact that anabolic steroids are illegal to possess, sell, or own.
