They can also shorten your lifespan by five years or more, even if you only take them for 9 months (this is why doctors only prescribe them for a maximum of six months at a time). Steroids can be prescribed by doctors for many diseases such as osteoporosis, asthma, and lung problems. Side effects for steroids include, but are not limited to acne, cushing’s syndrome (cushing syndrome is a metabolic disorder that is caused by the overproduction of corticosteroid hormones), irritability, hair growing on face, easier bruising, weight gain, and redistribution of fat.
