What is one difference and one similarity between the text and the film? Why do you think the director made this change or kept it the same?

There are many major differences and similarities between the film, The Mighty, and the book, Freak the Mighty. One major difference, is when Freak and Max go to get Loretta's purse. One major similarity, is when Freak saves Max from Killer Kane.

In the book, Max and Freak go to retrieve Loretta's purse by, throwing a device down the sewer, and pulling the purse up, no encounters and no having to get their hands dirty. However in the movie, Freak has Ma go into the sewer to retrieve the purse. After max gets out of the sewer, Tony D. (A.k.ABlade) and his gang confront Freak and Max about the purse. Max picks up the sewer hatch and uses it as a shield when the gang tries to hit him. Eventually, he threatens to throw the sewer hatch and makes the gang run away.

The Reason the Director made this change is to add action to the movie. If this change had not been made, it would have been a boring scene and the viewers would probably not have liked it as much.

Killer Kane laughs the threat off, but then Freak shoots Killer Kane in the eyes with the ¨sulfuric acid¨ (which is really vinegar) and he starts to scream in pain. The police come and put Killer Kane in jail for life and everyone goes home. In the film, The literal exact same thing happens, Freak comes in and says he has sulfuric acid in his water gun and shoots killer kane in the eyes with his so called, ¨sulfuric acid¨.
