Should Stores Be Allowed to Spy on You? Imagine that people are shopping at their favorite stores, all the time, and they are being watched secretly. Surveillance cameras are the equipment which records their every move such as where they go, what they look at, and what they buy. This has certainly already happened to people every day. Although some people consider the surveillance of customers by retail anthropologists is manipulative and unethical, others think it is reasonable and acceptable because it provides many valuable ways that include understanding the customers’ behaviors and satisfying their needs timely, helping the store managers to develop their business, and setting up the appropriate strategies in competition with the others. First of all, the retailers use the surveillance cameras as effective tools to track the customers’ behaviors and make people happy by providing what they need or expect. According to the article “Should Stores Be Allowed to Spy on You?” the author discusses how the surveillance videos can help retailers to keep a close eye on everything going on in the store. By placing cameras throughout the store, they can carefully watch their customers how long they spend shopping and what they are looking for. People that do not agree should not go out in public. The surveillances are not attack personal privacy, they only approach the customers’ behaviors and then providing satisfactory. In fact, it is very important that the surveillance of consumers by retail anthropologists is satisfactory because it provides value in many ways such as understanding the customers’ behaviors and needs, finding the best ways to improve the owner’s business, and building a plan to compete with other retailers.
