Stephen Hawking’s intelligence is a significant reason why he should be recognized as Person of the Year. In 1959, Hawking studied cosmology at the University of Cambridge. Hawking was intrigued by black holes which were massive and compact stars with such a great gravitational pull that light could not escape from within them. He further studied Einstein’s theory of General Relativity and discovered that it broke down at singularities, which were points with infinite matter such as black holes. Hawking would spend over 35 hours just to write out a 45 minute lecture. HeH also wrote multiple books over 200 pages in length. His most famous book, “A Brief History of Time”, was estimated to have taken him about 3 years to complete. Hawking uses a computer program called Equalizer to helps him speak. He definitely does not let ALS get in his way of doing the things that he wants to do, although it does slow him down. Stephen is in the lab all the time trying to make new discoveries on the beginning of the universe. Science is his life and he loves it. Hawking’s love for his work is something that people should admire. This is another reason why Hawking deserves to be Time Magazine’s Person of the
