Communities just outside of Little Rock, Arkansas are deprived of food and jobs. A woman named Heather is the mother of 3 beautiful children; although, they all have struggled through the curves of life. Heather explained to the Share Our Strength volunteers that it was one summer day that changed her thoughts about life in an unbelievable way. Share our Strength volunteers state her exact words, “Heather told me about a day last summer when she decided to check on her neighbor’s daughter. It was late in the afternoon, and she knew that both of the girl’s parents were at work. However, this desperation is not uncommon with kids that get their only meal from school, and Heather’s neighbors rely on those meals everyday of their lives.
Despite people bashing the Share Our Strength Organization for hiring too many people and not promoting enough, SOS should be supported because it has exquisite funding abilities, numerous educational meal programs, and have additional networks that supports other basic needs that are in the fight to end world hunger.
Meanwhile, the Share Our Strength Organization was founded in 1984, by a fellow named Bill Shore and his sister Debbie Shore (Blum). Bill is also the Chairman of Community Wealth partners that solves social problems. In 2014-2015, Bill served as a Congressional appointee to the National Commission on Hunger, a group tasked with finding innovative ways to end hunger in America (Shore). From 1978 to 1987, Bill served on the senatorial and presidential campaign staffs of former U.S. Senator Gary Hart (shore). SOS has a magnificent amount of supporters and volunteers that intertwine from food networks and other charities that are in the fight to end world hunger. Bill and Debbie have been apart of the development and launching of many culinary events, in which Taste of the Nation is the largest event (Shore). Taste of the Nation is now going on its 29th year and has produced 95 million dollars in every major market (Shore). Tate of the Nation takes place in 100 cities to raise money for hunger relief charities (No Kid Hungry). For example, SOS volunteers traveled to Atlanta and teamed up with food chains to raise $315,000 that was dispersed between different hunger relief organizations (“Sharing the Wealth”). Also, chefs from Miami took part in the Taste of the Nation benefit and raised $100,000 and donated it to the SOS organization (“Sharing the Wealth”). Moreover, SOS chefs traveled to Chicago during Taste of the Nation benefit and made $100,000 (Sharing the Wealth”). Overall, SOS makes a lot of money from the Taste of the Nation; however, that isn’t the only benefit SOS takes part in. For example, SOS teamed up with Arby’s and raised money in order to buy gifts for poor families that were in need. Arby’s collected $1 from every customer that was willing to donate (Blum). The company provided $300,000 worth of donations and was able to team up with SOS to draw forth 2 million dollars worth of
