Two years ago at Santa Ana, I saw a homeless man on a curb next to a parking lot of ABC Supermarket begging for money. I pitied him and reached out 3 dollars in my pocket and gave him my money. He said,“God bless you” and gave me a distinctive smile. I remember to this day, seeing him so happy brought me such joy. The pleasure of helping an unfortunate man felt warming and rewarding.…
Variety in the Pantry My father used to be a chef so he knows how to cook for a crowd. Every time he cooks we have leftovers for what seems like weeks. My sister and I often got very tired of what we were eating and my father would be the one stuck struggling to eat all the extra food. My sister and I developed what is called food fatigue.…
As William Shakespeare once said, “How far that little candle throws his beams! So shine a good deed in a naughty world.” I agree with Shakespeare even the littlest of work, makes a big difference. You could volunteer, pick up trash, or vene help out the new kid at school. As I said before even the littlest things can have a big impact.…
On a blazing hot afternoon, I was with my Peer Ministry. It seemed like our whole group, interacting with the sizable population of homeless on the streets of Riverside, CA, was working like a fast food crew; we were distributing food from our cars at a superhuman pace. This activity seemed like any ordinary job our group did together — until I handed a brown paper bag to a homeless African American man. His expression registered shock. He put his hand on my shoulder and said, “Son, how did you know I needed help?”…
On the Morning time I was walking with my dog, suddenly I notice the old man sitting on street people are walking on road ignore him. Weather seem bit chiller around, his skin was rugged and look tough. His outfit look dirty on jacket .l look that old men, but he didn’t looked at me. I was thinking why he was on siting on street on morning time.…
Community Description My agency focuses on helping people of low income and also the homeless population in San Mateo County. Low-income individuals and families find it extremely hard to find affordable housing, especially in San Mateo County. San Mateo County has become a very expensive county to live in and it is only getting more expensive each year. Because of the rising prices of housing in this county many people are unable to afford housing.…
In 2012 I was living in Tulsa Oklahoma, as a homeless veteran. I moved into a low income apartment. In February I drove across town to pick up my girlfriend, in a blizzard. During this trip I was in a near fatal head-on collision.…
While there were no issues on the ride to the Food Pantry, there were some on the way back. People who were in the back began to throw various objects in the front, disrupting many people’s peaceful ride back to school; however, this is more or less expected from high schoolers. The place was real sobering in the fact that there are more starving people out there than you would imagine, and the food supplies are shorted than you’d imagine. We realized that there was not enough food to supply the amount of people outside from the warehouse.…
San Diego is known as America’s finest city and its citizens crowd the streets begging for help. I yearned to answer their pleas. My first act to help the homeless population was to feed them. I created food drives at my high school and as the Key Club president had the chapter feed the homeless every month. However, through feeding the homeless, I discovered an abundance of displaced young children and teenagers.…
I’m running back and forth, from Thailand to Tibet, Guatemala to the Urban Slums. At least, The Heifer “Global International Education” versions of these places. Our school had visited Heifer to learn more about poverty, and about each other. But, we got more than we were asking for. Tonight was the night my older siblings had told me about.…
I always lived near the downtown Long Beach- were majority of the city’s homeless population inhabited. Anywhere I went, I would see someone standing asking for money, or performing in hopes of getting some extra change. Some of the adults I saw were parents or grandparents of classmates from my school. After seeing that I was unsure on if I wanted to continue a relationship with my classmates or pretend like they did not exist because of their situation. Around third grade, in my after-school YMCA program, we had Goodwill go and give us a lecture on what they do.…
Extremely unsatisfied with this answer, I decided that I had to contribute to the spreading of awareness for homelessness. So, after talking with the main sponsor of National Honor Society at my school, we decided to organize an event for supporting the cause. The event came to be a Friday night on the coldest week of January, in which all members of NHS came out with cardboard boxes and sleeping bags, to experience what one night of being homeless truly felt…
The old man sits on the porch. Maryland summers are classified somewhere under humid subtropical and humid continental but all the man feels is the accumulation of perspiration around his temples. The man in the neighboring balcony smokes.…
It was Thanksgiving morning, my brother, my sisters, and I were on our way to meet our parents and family at the AT&T stadium to tailgate at the Cowboys football game. On our way there, we stop at a red light, and I notice a homeless man sitting there. He had nowhere to go and nothing to eat. I felt bad for him and asked Jennifer, my sister, if we should give him some food. She says yes, so we stop at the gas station right in front of us.…
The Trip to the Grocery Store I haven’t seen him in weeks or maybe even months, I thought as I glared across the small distance between where I was standing and my dad’s car. With my One Direction CD clutched in my hands, I started to close the distance by walking towards his car. I opened the door and slipped in, and then he started to drive to the grocery store. At the time I was under the illusion that my dad would be even slightly happy to see me, but no.…
