Both hospital and community pharmacists have a significant role to play in advocacy of opening a new pharmacy. Advocacy is a tool that has the potential to have a profound impact on a pharmacy practice. Legislation is changing. Governments and pharmacy governing bodies are continuing to work to increase the scope of practice of pharmacists, leaving companies with an incredible opportunity to grow. Pharmacists also need to take responsibility for advocating through the interactions with patients, other health care professionals and the public. This is a call to action for the entire profession. If the majority of pharmacists do so, the potential for growth, increased patient awareness and sustainability and advancement of this profession are endless (Maryland & Gonzalez, 2012). Follow journals, blogs and articles and look for ways to apply what has been successful for other pharmacists.
