A hero is rather someone who is simply caring for others, and helps others without a doubt in their mind. They respect other, and are role models for others. This is why Odysseus is not a hero in The Odyssey. He was only worried about himself, and how he was going to get back to his family. He might have helped some of his men at times, but they ended up all dying at the end. Odysseus seemed not trustworthy at times because he sent his men into the danger before him at times, and he didn’t tell them about the six-headed monster that was waiting for them. Lisa Dreesman, my aunt, is a hero in more ways than one. She is more than just courageous and a role model. She is mentally strong, she is selfless, and she is kind to everyone she meets. She lost her husband to suicide, but she didn’t hide it away, she decided to march for what she believed in, just like Martin Luther King Jr. She is not a typical hero, but she is a hero that everyone should follow because she is a very special person. Lisa says, “We don’t wear capes but we make a positive difference. That is heroic” (Dreesman). This quote fits the definition of a hero because a hero doesn’t have to look some sort of way, or have non-human-like abilities; they just have to make a positive difference in someone’s life. There are many people from the past that have done something that shaped the world to what it is today. Abraham Lincoln, Rosa parks, and Martin Luther King Jr. are some heroic, well known people. Martin Luther King Jr. was an activist who believed that colors of skin should not matter, and that everyone should be treated equally. His actions resulted in thousands of people acting with him. He was brave because before that, no one was brave enough to speak up for what they believed in. So many people wanted to follow in his footsteps, and so many people looked up to him making him a role
