Born in 1960, Roberts grew up in a small town in Mississippi. Her father, Lawrence E. Roberts, was famous for being a black fighter squadron, the Tuskegee Airmen. In 1983, Roberts finished school from Southeastern Louisiana University with a bachelor of Arts degree in communications. She was a standout player on the women’s basketball team, ending her career in 1,446 points for leading scores and 1,034 points for rebounder. Her wake-up call came when WLOX offered her the prime time news anchor position. Even though it was a big promotion she knew in her heart that she wouldn’t be happy and politely decline. Since staying at ABC hosting Wide World , the staff of GMA asked Robin if she can host the sports segment from time to time. In early 2005 she was asked to become full-time GMA co-anchor. At first she was quite nervous but then said yes. The broadcast won four Emmy Awards for outstanding morning program. In June of 2007 went downhill for Roberts. She was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Sadly in June of 2012 she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome. This disease is a rare disease of the blood and bone marrow once known as preleukemia. She was given less than two years to live. This is the biggest story of her career. She let her viewers see it all. All three of her siblings were tested for a perfect match bone marrow transplant and her sister Sally-Ann was
