I also think another important causal factor is that none of his family punished him or called him out on his actions. When he was in high school, his parents were social drinkers, which may have led Kirk to believe that drinking socially was just a part of life. Also, he never got in trouble with his parents for drinking underage. Also, his wife continued to enable Kirk by covering for him when he would get work calls late at night when his intoxication was finally beginning to show. I believe that if he had faced some form of punishment for his actions,
