Jones discussed the importance of a leader’s ability to influence followers and provided support by presenting the strength of charismatic leadership traits and situational leadership theory within a military setting. While the strengths of both the personality and the chosen leadership style may be valid determinants of leadership success, they do not always correlate to long-term shaping of follower readiness. Specifically, in the case of situational leadership theory, the research of Vecchio, Bullis, and Brazil (2006) concluded that “it has yet to be demonstrated that leaders who attempt to emulate the prescriptions of the theory will have higher effectiveness” (p. 418). Their findings placed more value on the positive effects of leader-member…
Volkman believes leaders are not born, rather they are made much like how the textbook debunks the myth. The prime example would be himself. In the beginning, Volkman never thought of himself of as leader, but now takes on many roles. He serves on the Student Conduct Board and is the chair for the Assessments and Evaluation Committee within Ball State Housing and Residence Life. The Student Conduct Board consists of students and a hall director facilitator, who ultimately are in charge of disciplining those who violate policy.…
Doing whatever comes to a leader's mind could be a problem because in a society there are different mind sent between the younger and older generations. “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” ― Helen Keller . What she meant by that quote is that working together can get us somewhere but working alone and thinking you could make it work will be hard and you will not be able to make your society happy. Every leader should have the characteristics, passion to help the community and make it a better place to acquire a good leadership.…
Before delving further into leadership and management theories and styles it is good to understand the difference between a manager and a leader. Bennis and Nanus (1985, p221) state that ‘managers are people who do things right and leaders are people that do the right thing.’ Yukl (2002, p7) goes on to suggest that leadership is the process of influencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how it can be done effectively, and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish the shared objectives. However, Stodgill (1974:7) powerfully stated that ‘there are as many definitions of leadership as there are persons who have tried to define it.’ Although there are varying definitions to leadership…
A true leader provides purpose, direction, and motivation to individuals or groups and the Army’s Leadership Requirements Model defines what a leader must be, know and do. In an effort to see how leadership dynamics are portrayed in the movies, I chose to compare how the main character in “Remember the Titans” and “To Kill A Mockingbird” utilize the many aspects of the leadership model in dealing with racial strife. The movie “Remember the Titans” is a true story about the desegregation of T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria Virginia in 1971. Coupled with the school board’s forced integration policy, the revered institution of high school football is forever changed with the hiring of a black head football coach over the Virginia…

Hollander(2009) realized inclusive leadership as a style of relational leadership based on leader's interest of listening to his followers and concerns with their needs, this makes his followers realize him as available for them. When working in early childhood there is an increasing motivation to achieve higher levels of development in their professionalism. This involves the way they plan, write, incorporation of new strategies or the implementation of efficient organisation. While using the National Quality Framework (NQF) as a support network to educators teaching practices, philosophy and vision, leaders must also consider that investigation and discourses can shape the way they teach. For instance, educators methods of teaching may be driven more on regulatory requirements rather than the quality of multiple exercises that can better cater for the children's learning (Waniganayake et al., 2012, p. 53) In order to achieve the centres goals and objectives, effective…
This leadership style is built on the concern for the well-being. Employees are motivated when the leadership proves that they are not mere resources that are used for productivity and can be discarded if need be (Tabernero et al., 2009). The goodwill developed between the leaders who use the relationship-oriented leadership and the employees increases commitment to the organization and service delivery. The organizations whose leaders use the relationship-oriented style are able to gain from improved customer service and reduced employee turnover.…
In regards to situational theory, leaders must differentiate their managing approach in present day society in order to accommodate all circumstances (Mumford, 2011). Groups and people work their best when administrators and directors exhibit adaptable managing styles (Mumford, 2011). The situational theory claims that for administrators to be really effective, they should modify the way they manage their groups, to satisfy a couple of considerations: How capable an individual or staff is with an assignment and the level of experience of the job assigned in situational leadership theory is that leaders more or less put emphasis on the job and more or less emphasis on the authorization with the people they are managing, contingent…
Introduction Societal culture is a common language, belief system, ethic heritage, and history of a group of people (House, Hanges, Ruiz-Quintanilla, Dorfman, Javidan, Dickson, et al, 1999). Organizational culture is a commonly shared language, values, and history shared by members of an organization. Relationship theories, generally called transformational theories, focus on the affiliations encircled amidst leaders and disciples. In these theories, leadership is the systems by which a man attracts with others and has the limit "make an affiliation" those results in extended motivation and moral quality in both fans and leaders. Relationship theories are consistently diverged from engaging leadership speculations in which leaders with particular qualities, for instance, assurance, extroversion, and unmistakably communicated qualities, are seen as best prepared to influence enthusiasts (Lamb, 2013). Relationship or transformational leaders push and move people by helping social affair people see the noteworthiness and higher awesome of the errand.…
In five years time I aim to be in a leadership role in the New Zealand Defence Force 's (NZDF) psychology branch. Specifically I am aiming towards a command role as a project leader in on of the areas of specialisation with the psychology branch of the NZDF, but preferably the in the area of training and development. In this role I intend to continually build upon and refine my own skills as a leader and within my area of specialization. I also intend - where it is both possible and practical, but not yet implemented - to increase the use of technological media within my project area, as well as within the organisation as a whole. Also the NZDF is extremely culturally diverse so I intend as a leader to continue embracing this, inline with the…
