It also honed my knowledge and skills. A negative aspect of this experience was I felt embarrassed, incapable and disappointed. It was truly a tough job because a patient’s life is in the hands of the surgical teams. I must obtain excellent technical skills and think critically in order to attain a successful operation.

Theatre Nurses perform a various roles in perioperative care. Their two major roles are a scrub nurse and a circulating nurse. Criscitelli (2014) states that a nurse in operating theatre requires additional skills and knowledge of surgical procedures. The type of job of a theatre nurse is extremely complex that requires highly technical skills. I need to be very knowledgeable in each type of operation. I always need to be well prepared and alert during each

Having had several clinical hours working on floors of this nature, I would feel most prepared to apply and build upon my existing skillset. Furthermore, I tutored the medical-surgical courses at Northeastern University, giving me the experience needed to apply critical thinking in such an area of nursing. My goal, if hired by MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, would be to immediately contribute to the workflow of the hospital, and provide patient care that is safe, and considerate of the patient’s culture, ethnic background, religion, etc. I look forward to the prospect of interviewing with you and the recruitment staff at your fine…

While I was enlisted in the US Navy, I was privileged to attend the Naval School of Health Sciences, and study Surgical Technology. I graduated with honors, but unfortunately, the military at the time was not paying for its Surgical Tech graduates to nationally certify. I performed all sorts of surgical cases at the major military facilities I was posted. During my eight years as a surgical tech, I had performed over ten thousand surgical cases, working hand to hand with various surgeons in the operation bed from different specialties which included: General Surgery, Colon and Rectal Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmic Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, and Urology. As a military surgical…

Therefore, it is necessary to prepare in advance both psychologically and emotionally in order to be able to respond to the interview questions in the right manner. In so doing, I have researched from various sources including the internet and face-to-face encounter with managers of various hospitals and compiled a list of common interviewing questions and appropriate answers to these questions. I have also watched videos on how to position myself during an interview and the signals people convey via their body language. Through these self education and consultation with experienced nurses who have been through the process, I am confident of my preparedness to perform creditably in an…

I've learned plenty throughout the past eight weeks. Looking back, the nursing process and cultural competence were the two concepts that I took the most away from. Learning the nursing process has taught me the importance of providing patient-centered care. Since then I have began to apply the steps of the nursing process while working as a nursing assistant and it has changed the quality of the care that I provide. I plan to bring what I've learned about the role and responsibilities of a nurse to my future clinical rotations.…

In this case, I choose to conduct a reflective study as described by Gibbs (1988) model that encourages a nurse practitioner to think in a systematic way about the processes and the phases of experience that should be used to structure a reflection. In this case, Gibbs provides a well-structured approach that I will use in conducting this reflective study, a factor that is significant in nursing. Clinical started with all of us meeting in the main lobby of Methodist Northlake Hospital. I was a bit nervous for I was going to be a student nurse manager for people I never met before. I didn’t know if they would take me seriously. I took a long breathe in and slow exhale out, before I introduced myself to the clinical group. We then headed to the Labor and Delivery floor to change out of our clothing and into hospital scrubs.…

The New London rotation was a wonderful opportunity to see not only different areas of nursing that I have the opportunity to go into, but also to truly experience and see what patients are going through when they enter a hospital setting due to presenting symptoms or for a surgery. I was able to experience people’s panic and distress when they enter the emergency department and found it particularly enlightening to be able to see how the staff addressed the patient’s increased emotions as well as the emotions of the individuals who were bringing the patients in. I believe it is incredibly important to learn how to correctly identify individual’s emotions, especially in a high stress situation, and be able to address them appropriately. Personally, I don’t not know how to correctly go about in addressing these types of situations and always find it helpful to learn from others who have been doing this for many years and have great experience with it.…

Surgical technologist must complete an accredited, post-secondary training program in surgical technology. Circulator or Surgical nurses are always registered nurses who may or may not specialize in providing care to patients in the operating rooms. In the past two week, I was on the surgery ward having an 8 days clinical dietitian placement in the Frankston hospital, learning how to communicate with various groups of patients. For the early stages of my placement, I mainly learned to read the medical record and observed my supervisor to do the nutrient assessment and gave my feedback or comments to my supervisor. The critical incident occurred in the second week of my placement, which I went to do a short interview with the patient on my own. This was my first time and I needed to do the full assessment and the dietary history in this interview.…

Provide a description of what happened/learning activity While on placement on ward 15B (Surgical) at Southport Hospital, I had one specific learning opportunity that I wanted to complete as part of my surgical nursing experience. This was to follow a patients’ journey through a surgical procedure. I was able to arrange this learning opportunity with my mentor and also through the consent of the patient and agreement with the surgeon and theatre team. This chose this learning opportunity so that I was able to experience and understand the basics of perioperative nursing within the three different areas of theatre; anaesthetics, surgery, and recovery. Also, the surgical nursing care given pre and post operation.…

My first clinical experience was at St. Vincent hospital on a geriatric unit, when I was a second year nursing student. During my time there, nurses often approached me to provide small learning experiences and teach students how to be efficient. When a nurse on the unit asked for help with a bed bath for a patient with whom I was not familiar, I agreed. I wanted to get as much experience as I could. The nurse led me to the patient 's room right away.…
