Final Reflection This is the last task ever in ENGL 109. This semester I have devoted so much time in this course on writing and brainstorming. I think that my writing skill has improved significantly throughout the semester. I got the opportunities to write three short essay, including Narrative, Evaluation, and Proposal and Research in the past three months which were very challenging to me due to my limited experience on writing these kind of article. Also, I studied elementary school and high school in Hong Kong, I found it difficult to have the sense on recognizing grammatical and linguistic mistake in my essay. The assignment prompt is to explore one big moment in my life in depth. I didn’t struggled a lot on finding the topic but I had hard time on developing a good narrative. In high school, I tried to avoid every narrative-related stories as I am not good at describing and expressing my own feeling and experience. This assignment was a detailed version of my photo essay. The TA feedback from the photo essay guided me to explore extra areas in my scout experience. Despite no peer reviews, TA’s opinion helped me a lot in writing this assignment. I reviewed the essay after the first submission, I have addressed my common errors and change some wordings. At the same time, I deleted some unrelated and redundant information to my experience in my essay. I believe that the more you review your essay, the less errors you made in your essay. At the same time, I found it useful to have someone reviewing your essay. Sometimes, you may explain something in the way that it is not understandable to others. Letting someone to read your essay in a third person perspective and provide some feedbacks can help you address unclear expression and revise it. Also, “common errors” activity helped me to drop down what my common errors are. With the list of common errors, I can pay attention on common mistakes made before. By doing so, I can proofread my essay more efficient and keep in mind that I can’t make the same mistake again in my next
