I presented my lesson to an 8th grade Social Studies classroom. In this classroom I presented a lesson that incorporated critical thinking and evaluating primary sources to support their argument. My mentor teacher and I came up with a lesson called “Who fired the first shot” where we showed students videos and documents about the battle at Lexington and Concord. I sent students a PowerPoint with four different points of view about the event at Lexington. My since my school is a one-to one (one student to one computer), my mentor teacher regulars sends assignments to them via email. This type of lesson provided the students a new type of thinking and interaction. I had the students read four different accounts independently about the event …show more content…
H changed the format and directions to my lesson. This got me nervous because I thought that I did not adequately prepare for this activity. My mentor teacher explain why he made those changes and after hearing those explanation it made me feel better about my presentation. My favorite part of this activity was the conversation between the groups. The students were using facts from the sources, listening to each reasoning, and having applying each students responding to the overall conclusion. This section of the activity is what went well. What I need to improve is to watch my wait time when asking question. I would not give the student enough time to think and I would give the student the answer to the question. I need to be more patience during this part of the lesson. I will definitely use this lesson in the future because it’s a great way to introduce a lesson to the students. I has many different components that makes the students use critical thinking and cooperative learning. I will make sure that I incorporate what my mentor teacher said to enrich my activity so the students are more

On the day of Shelby and I’s presentation I was excited to share our fun and interactive math activity with my classmates. We incorporated a lot of SIOP strategies that were explicitly shown in our slides throughout the whole presentation. It was extremely helpful to receive feedback from our peers about other ideas, strengths and weaknesses in our lesson plan. Some of my classmates told me that we should ask questions that extend their thinking so I included this during the lesson and this was really helpful advice.…

I loved the way Mr. Hossack conducted this particular lesson because of the way the students took responsibility for their own learning! The way he guided them through a complex process was brilliant. Desired Results-- learning objectives: Mr. Hossack not only posted the class objectives on the board, he discussed them with the class and made sure they understood the vocabulary used in the objective as well as what learning outcome to expect. The students were clearly accustomed to discussing the objectives before beginning the activities. Assessment Evidence Mr. Hossack used both formal and informal methods of assessment.…

As the teaching session progressed, the students remained focused and paid attention to the topics on the PowerPoint and the extra explanations I was saying. They continued to actively participate by answering various questions and completing their notes with the missing key words. The general delivery of the teaching went well as shown by an average SET score of 4.2 for question 1 (Table 1). I spoke in a clear and concise manor which enabled the students to understand my descriptions and explanations of concepts clearly, and allowed them to have enough time to make any extra notes they wanted to write. Many students said that it was a “clear presentation and was easy to understand.”…

I felt like the students were able to analyze my essential questions really well, because they were able to make predictions before they heard the story, they were able to witness wacky things happening throughout the story, and then they were able to reexamine if their predictions were right or not. Using the main idea reading pocket chart was a great tool to use, because then they were able to see what some of them thought the main ideas were from the stories and other students to be able to partake in what they thought the supporting details were. I felt like it was a good week of when I did my lesson, because not only was it, Dr. Seuss week, but it fell on a Wednesday for me to do my lesson and the book, I read the children was Wacky Wednesday and they…

I taught my lesson first thing in the morning after the students had entered the classroom and watched the morning announcements. While the students were seated at their desks, I asked them to get their South Carolina textbook and journal. Once the students had their materials ready I called them by their tables to sit on the carpet. I then asked the students to turn to page 160 in their textbooks. Next I talked with the class about what we just finished learning about in our last social studies unit.…
