The General's eyes flutter open and the world has become new again. The colors are fast approaching his sight; dazed and confused, General Zaroff is left to abandon his cruel psychotic ways. Rainsford won the battle, but the General was not truly defeated. Faintly remembering the traumatizing fall out the window, General Zaroff struggles to lift up his body from the damp earth beneath him. A piercing sensation arose from his arm, and a small hiss of pain escaped his already chapped lips. Tilting his head ever so slightly, Zaroff could see his wounded arm, marked with bone deep bites and blood pouring from all sides. What's going on? He thinks. Why would the dogs do such a thing? And to their owner no less. The General takes a leap of courage off the ground, not realizing what tragic mistake he made. Directly in his vision is a hound, lurking in brush, teeth out, snarl drawn, and drool dribbling from the corner of its mouth. Moving his right foot directly behind the other, four other hounds jump out from all possible exits, surrounding the General. Hungry and desperate for new prey, the ferocious mammals move closer to where, there is absolutely no escape. As his eyes search the territory, another growl escapes one beast in particular. Before another step was taken, the hound originally in front of him leaps up and almost takes hold of the already damaged arm. Making it by just a few seconds, Zaroff manages to escape the hounds to safety. An emergency boat was located at an extremely remote part of the island. Filled with guns, money, and a first aid kit, it could not have been more perfect. Reaching the dock, Zaroff thought he managed to escape the terrorizing dogs, but he couldn't be more wrong. Gaining enough strength, Zaroff manages to leap on the boat. In the corner of his eye, the General saw a brown figure hit the side of the boat with a thump. Turning around and looking into the water, he could see blood slowly intoxicating the water. Already docked onto land, General Zaroff desires to explore. So many faces race past and being in new territory is overwhelming. Looking with more interest, he could help but notice that everyone has either been abandoned on the streets or extremely un-wealthy. Standing next to Zaroff is a considerably young man, possibly married. Looking up from his watch, the man looks back up with Zaroff with a subtle confused look mixed with curiosity. Not expecting to see such a large and wealthy looking man talk to him, the man addressed him with respect. "Hello sir. Can I help you with anything?" "Yes, I need a place to stay. Would you mind giving me directions to the nearest hotel?" "Of course! There's one behind that salon over there. I was heading there anyway." The poor man points to a corner with a few stores. "Thank you, would there be anything I could do to make it up?" Zaroff smirks thinking …show more content…
The cobs displayed in front of the store were elegant and nice. When he reaches the hotel, there's a lady cleaning the lobby of the hotel. She's beautiful, he thinks. She looked unhappy and out of place in such a shabby hotel. "Excuse me, but is there an open room here?" He asks the beautiful lady. "Yes, let me just grab my father so you can rent a room." She walks through a door and come back out with an old man. "Here he is." "How long will you be staying here?" Zaroff keeps looking at the woman. "I'm not really sure. As soon as I can go back to my island." This caught the woman's attention. She look up at him with eager eyes. "It will be 43 francs per night. Liosel, please take this man to his room" She walks towards the door and Zaroff follows. "Are you a rich man? You said you had an island so I assume that you are." "Yes, I am. I have an island and a huge mansion. One you could get lost in trying to find your room. I'm the only one living there right now. My friend recently deceased. It's quite
