The Transcontinental Railroad was a great achievement of America, and no one shall forget how incredible this railroad is. The First Transcontinental Railroad in the United States was built in the 1860s, linking the well developed railway network of the Eastern coast with rapidly growing California. The main line was officially completed on May 10, 1869. It was a challenging mission, to make it so people and cargo can make it to coast to coast quickly and economically. The two companies that worked together are the Central Railroad company and the Northern Railroad company.…

This means making sure you can drive all the way across.…
“Tramps, Hobos, Beats and Crusties” There is something romantic about hearing the sound of a train in the distance. It has a way of enticing the imagination--it conjures up sepia images of hardship and freedom, and leaves us with an unexplained longing. It is as if the railroad links us to our country’s past, a nostalgic reminder that some things never change. In 2008 I spent the better part of a year hopping freight and hitchhiking from Maine to Washington. Although I only rode a handful of trains, I learned a great deal about the culture that surrounds train hopping.…

Overtime, multiple people of different races and ethnicities have been treated unfairly, same goes for the travelers from different countries seeking a new life. Most of the time those emigrants become slaves, and in all honesty.. It’s unjustified. No group or single person deserves to be disrespected just for their race or background, especially since they are coming to this new country for a brand new life and a fresh start, but coming just to be disrespected and being treated unfairly doesn't seem right. Murphy shows us how this has affected the emigrants in the story “Across America on an Emigrant Train.”…
