Carson talks about the danger of pesticides, insisting that we use caution because we do not know what the long term effects of the pesticides are. Since earth has a very interconnected food web when one part of the web gets impacted it affects the world on a large scale(paragraph 23). Using strong syntax words also greatly adds to the emotion and feeling of the story. She uses strong syntax like; accumulate,penetrate, shatter, inadvertence, adaptable, intermingled,extraordinarily,staggering(paragraphs 3,7,8,12) . Carson Is very good at using strong syntax words to emphasize areas in her stories. Her syntax words create a very strong meaning to the stories
Among the many literary devices, Carson uses irony to develop her thesis by mentioning how we could be eradicating ourselves from earth by using to chemicals that are used to exterminate other organisms. The part that makes her thesis ironic is the fact that it is a substance that we are using to kill other organisms that could be potentially killing us off. Meaning our attempts to eradicate pests is not only doing damage to the pest but is also damaging our environment and us. We are able to repair ourselves much more efficiently than the earth.
Rachel Carson does a very good job at making an argument about the use of pesticides. She made such a good case that she informed enough people that she was able to create her own organization known as EPA, Environmental protection Agency. This just shows how much of a point she makes on this subject, Along with many other subjects on the environment. This concludes that she knows what she is talking
