Introduction
Quality improvement refers to a series of processes that evaluate the performance of the healthcare sector and suggests improvements that are measurable quantitatively and qualitatively ("Quality Improvement", 2016). The idea behind conducting a QI is not to critique the existing systems and processes, but to develop systematic efforts to improve the performance of the processes. Rather than focusing on the employees, QI mainly addresses the processes and systems that are in place to ensure patients are properly treated. It is a data-intensive practice geared towards improving patient experiences with the healthcare system.
There are several areas of my healthcare sector where QI can be applied. These include:
1. Care coordination
2. Self-management
3. Cancer screening
4. Asthma treatment
5. Immunization of children and adults
6. Children with special needs ("Quality Improvement", 2016).
The above are just some of the areas in which quality improvement processes can be applied. This paper shall focus on QI in area 6 - Children with special needs.

In order to transform patient experience, all processes were developed to improve the accuracy with which medicines were being dispensed. This implied changing the labelling system used on medicines, the prescription techniques, and the follow up systems. Management realized that by using an electronic medical record system or EMR the process could be better streamlined ("7 Tools for Continuous Quality Improvement", 2016). The staff found that the use of this automated system also made their work easier. The system could store patient records, their previous prescriptions, and it could even schedule their next
