Study design: We conducted a qualitative phenomenological inquiry to understand how contextual factors influence a stroke patient’s beliefs and behaviours pertaining to using their affected arm with an interpretivist approach.
Participant selection: We recruited sub acute (>1 month to 6 months) and chronic stroke survivors (> 6 months) above 18 years of age. People with co morbidities that affected using arm, whose speech was unintelligible, MMSE score less than 23, depressed or were unwilling were not recruited. They should have lived in their home after post acute rehabilitation phase for a minimum period of 1 month.
