Keeping Americans safe starts at the front lines of our nation’s defense, which are the soldiers who protect Americans. Many people that live in the United States don’t have any inclination of what a soldier is sacrificing. It’s not just their life; it’s their personal freedom, and their families and friends too. Drones have helped ensure that these sacrifices do not end in tragedy. Rather than sending in a group of soldiers to deal with an operation and putting themselves in an even more unsafe environment, a drone can possibly be tasked with the same operation and achieve the same end result. According to Lewis, they also have more than ten times the endurance that a manned aircraft has when it comes to observing and tracking a target (297). American and natural law stipulate that human life is to be cherished above all else. A soldier can now sit in a military base, centered in Las Vegas, Nevada and conduct an operation from miles away via a drone, whether this is reconnaissance or a surgical strike, as stated by Davies (42). This is because of their extensive inconspicuous use and cost benefits. People tend to not notice a small buzzing device high in the sky above the clouds below the beaming sun. It is safe to say that drones are the some of the best intelligence gathering devices currently used. Drone usage on the home front has steadily increased over the years. According Kostelnik, this may be because drones have the ability to patrol United States borders for up to 20 hours continuously before heading back for a refuel (par. 17). Michael Lewis even goes on record saying that, “over thirty hours for the Predator B and twenty for the Predator C” (296). These drones are both models that were designed for the Untied States Air Force; later the “Predator B” has been repurposed for border patrol (Kostelnik, par. 4). Another reason drones have become so popular for United States border patrol is because they are cost effective. With drones the United States Customs and Border Protection can canvas the entirety of the border at a much quicker pace and with less resources, while slowing the flow of drugs into the United States. Therefore ensuring that drug cartels and other unwanted organizations couldn’t smuggle illegal goods into the Untied States. Michael Lewis states that, “More basic drones cost less than l/20th as much as the latest combat aircraft and even the more advanced drones that feature jet propulsion and
