'An Analysis Of Sonny's Blues'

Growing up in the house with my parents always saying “Look after you sisters and make sure they do not get to any trouble.” They would always say if anything happens to them that would have to be my sisters’ keeper, even if they were doing things that I did not agree with. I never paid attention to them until someone almost ran over my baby sister because I was not watching her, and she ran into the streets. I said this to ask have anyone ever had this brother or sister that your parents made that person parents made them promise to look after them even if they are doing bad things that them do not even agree with. In the short story “Sonny’s Blues” this is exactly what happens. Upon request from their dying mom. Sonny’s brother tries to look after Sonny. Even though Sonny still manages to get in trouble, Sonny’s brother tries his best to figure him out and keep him on the right path in life. Sonny’s brother is confused as to his brother ends up on drugs. He is puzzled as to how his own brother could get twisted up in drugs and streets. He is shocked when he reads his name in the paper. Now, he just has to sit and wait to see if his brother can get himself together. Sonny’s brother wanted the best for him, but he did not know how to guve it to him. He was not his father or his mother, so he could not tell Sonny what to do. He thought Sonny felt felt like hi grown, and his brother becomes frustrated with him. He ends up letting him do what he wants with his life, and Sonny run wild. Sonny’s mother knew he was not going to be able to make it in the world with the help of someone. She made sure she pulled Sony’s brother to the side at their father’s funeral. She knew she was about to die, and she needed her oldest son to look after Sonny. She said to Sonny’s brother, “You got to hold on to your brother and don’t let him fall no matter what it looks like is happening to him and no matter how evil you with him.” It was hard living in the ghetto streets of Chicago. It was easy to persuade people to do things or try things that was not the best for them, especially if they do not have someone looking after them. Their mother was just being cautious because she did not want to lose her son to the streets, and by telling his brother, she felt that maybe he could look after Sonny. Sonny’s brother does not take his mom seriously because he felt his brother was way too smart to fall to the streets, but when he says he wants to be a musician, Sonny’s brother’s head begins to spin. Sonny did not mean to put his brother through the wire. Sonny brother knew his brother was going to be there for him through his trials and tribulations. He tries to do right with his mother’s promise, but Sonny makes it difficult. He sets a good example and tries to put him on the right path, nut the streets and music took over his life. The story shows us that even if anyone things another person knows a person, things could come and take that person away from another person in an instant. We as people should just try our best to not get frustrated with the people we love and be there for them like Sonny’s brother was to him.
