3.1.1 Photo manipulation is used in western media to attract viewers and increase their ratings. Editors use photoshop and many other editing programs to make the picture seem perfect.
3.1.2 The singer Meghan Trainor has had her video edited without her consent. Her figure was modified to look slimmer than the singer actually is. Trainor took down the video down until the video showed her actual figure. This act insulting and rude according to Trainor. This was not the first time Trainor has been photoshopped. The magazine called Seventeen has been accused of altering Trainor’s body on the magazine cover. Ryan P (2016)
3.1.3 The media has been accused by many viewers that they are promoting an unrealistic image of people according to the Goldwert (2016). The media has been known to alter a model’s appearance to look presentable in front of the viewers. They will “remove” some weight off the model to make them look slimmer and add more shine to their teeth and eyes to make them look whiter than before. Through the use of editing, the model can look like they are perfect but in reality, it is just masking their imperfections. Goldwert L .(2016) 3.1.4. The repeated use of image manipulation in the media has affected the level of the trust viewers have. There are many questions regarding whether the model is actually that size or are they manipulated in some way. By altering their sizes, viewers will think that their size would not fit the beauty standard and will try to reduce their weight. This could lead to anorexia and many other life-threatening obsessions. Djoukoue A. (2012) 3.2 Conclusion 3.2.1 Photo manipulation will be used by many industries to make grab the viewer 's’ attention. 3.2.2 The problem with the media today is that they are editing the videos to look presentable without the consent of the owner. This is a problem for the viewers as they are forced to think that they are not perfect unless they look like the models that have been edited to mask their imperfections. 3.2.4 With the use of image manipulation, the viewers will no longer know what the truth is and will eventually not trust the media anymore. 3.3 Recommendations 3.3.1 The industries have to stop editing their photos or videos to seem like they are the perfect product or picture. 3.3.2 The media must stop the editing the videos without the consent of the owner of the video. They have to edit the video as the owner see fit. 3.3.3 The media need to stop editing models. Not only will this set a bar for the beauty standard, it will also increase the confidence of the viewers. 3.3.4 The media need to stop manipulating images and show what the picture originally was.
