Nuclear Fusion:
The Energy Solution
It seems like science fiction saying that a city like San Francisco can achieve all of its power needs for a year with only a couple hundred gallons of water, but it true with the incredible power of nuclear fusion. As humans in our ongoing society we are always striving to save a pretty penny, embrace efficiency, and preserve the planet from our harmful pollution. However, it seems as if the human race is quite substantive with their decision to refrain from making the giant leap forward to the holy grail of energy. The financial backing for the research and development of fusion energy is pitiful for a commodity that will deliver such a promising reimbursement. The funding of nuclear fusion research should be intensified due to its ability to create an incredible magnitude of energy,

Fusion reactors, unlike other sources of energy, create no greenhouse gases which are extraordinarily harmful to the environment. Also there is no chance for a catastrophic accident like what happened in Chernobyl or Fukushima to happen at a fusion power plant. Other methods of acquiring energy like burning coal, natural gas, or petroleum create a substantial amount of smog, acid rain, and toxic air pollution. The continuous burning of these fossil fuels is leading the earth into an accelerated global warming cycle and pushing many species into extinction along with us if we are not careful. A large coal-burning plant on average every year produces 11 million tons of carbon dioxide while using 3 million tons of coal. Not only do these power plants create an incredible amount of waste they also need billions of gallons of water to cool them down that end up getting released into the environment and harm
