If a potential school shooter knows they may get the death penalty, it may be enough for them to think twice, and leave innocent people alone. Instead, giving them 5 years only lets them potentially plan another shooting. "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with gun," LaPierre said at the news conference that was interrupted twice by anti-gun activists. (Jackie Kucinich 2018) As this is proven, from the maryland shooting, schools need to understand this, and need to understand that more violence occurs in gun free zones. Opponents of this view insist on investigating other ways of ensuring security in schools, considering its serious nature. According to them, these comprehensive approaches help to build a sustainable and caring environment which is safe for learning while eliminating the need to put forward dangerous ideas like giving firearms to educators. When considering strategies to enhance school safety without resorting to arming teachers, several potential alternatives are carefully considered. One approach involves boosting school security through measures such as the deployment of armed police or the installation of metal detectors at school entrances. After a study was done on parents' perceptions of armed teachers, the results state “Although perceptions of child safety and experience with guns varied by location, most parents agreed on potential solutions, that it should be the security officers, not teachers, who should be carrying firearms and that armed police should be present in schools to provide safety”…

97% of school shootings are intentional and 30% of school shootings occur on school ground(homicidecenter.com). One of the reasons the percentage is not higher is because the shooters think of the fact that teachers might be armed and decide not to shoot the school. An argument that might be made is that it might not stop the shooter, but even if the idea of armed teachers doesn't stop the shooter, the teachers that are armed can take the shooter down before they injure or kill a lot of…

If the schools had better security and safety precautions, would it have saved the many valuable lives lost? Although school shootings are insufferable tragedies, they benefit modern society with improvements in security tactics, mental health services, and crime prevention through environmental design.…

If a student’s intent on hurting people they would know who would have a gun and how to get it. Also school officials are not the police, they have not been trained for these types of situations and can do more harm than good. The police can respond calmly than someone who is not used to being in these situations. Teachers should not be leaping in and start shooting away trying to fight the attacker, they should be trying to get the students away safely. More guns being fired is not the solution in a mass shooting and would likely bring more casualties and be harmful than intended originally.…

Teachers with maximum amount of training would doubtlessly manage much worse. (Lopez.) Additionally, if people who are armed are placed in a situation when there is a shooter, most of them will likely not be able to stop the shooter and will probably get themselves killed in the process while trying to use the gun. Moreover, even if these teachers did get multiple hours of training, most people will most probably not respond properly and with enough efficiency to get the job…
