When you look at what scripture prohibits, it says that you may not deceive those who deserve or expect to know the truth. The two main words is that definition are deserve and expect. I believe that a person has to qualify in both of those categories for it to be necessary to tell them the truth. If they don’t expect to know the truth, like a surprise birthday or at Christmas, then you don’t need to tell them the truth. And if they don’t deserve to know the truth, then they shouldn’t get it. Well who deserves the truth? Under normal circumstances, all people do. But again, the circumstances around you alter the case you are in. Take Hitler for example. When people would hide Jews in their homes and Hitler and his men would come and ask them where the Jews were, they didn’t deserve the truth because of who they were. They were unjust people and rulers that would torture and kill innocent people. It wouldn’t be right for the people hiding the Jews to freely give them up to be put in concentrations camps and killed. Hitler and his men under no means deserved to know the truth.
