Personal Statement: A Career As A Medical Assistant

Ever since I was a little girl, I found myself fascinated with the intricacies of the human body. I would spend hours playing doctor or nurse with my sister, and even when she did not want to play with me I would improvise with my dolls. I would watch medical TV shows such as “Greys Anatomy” and I would continue to fall in love with the thought of medicine and helping people with their treatment and potentially saving their lives. Working as a medical scribe in an OBGYN office this past summer has only furthered my interest into becoming a physician’s assistant. I am able to be hands-on with my patients and feel that I make a difference in their lives each day. I look at these patients as my own family. I want to give my patients the love, and desire in making their healthcare experience spectacular in the sense of making their treatment the best they have ever dreamed of. My doctor trusts me to handle the more complicated cases, and I am the only staff member who is bilingual. …show more content…
I had this one patient come in to the office, she was scared, worried and did not know what to do with the next steps in her life, she always kept saying “No one is going to love me the same if I am like this, I am gross, I should just go.” I read her chart extensively. Just as she was about to get up from the exam table, I quickly pulled her back down and told her “Everything is going to be okay, I am here to help you.” She looked at me with a blank stare, I said, “Everyone goes through what you have, you are not alone in this.” I held her hand tight and hugged her with all the love that I had to offer
