I have been intellectually challenged my entire life. I entered into the gate program in third grade when I moved to Arizona, and since then I have been excelling academically. One of my favorite traits is that I love to help people in need. I am constantly helping people in my classes who don’t understand the material. One of my least favorite traits is that I can get impatient. My aunt is in her late thirties, and decided to go back to school to increase her availability to work. Her toughest class is college Algebra, and she is constantly asking for my help. The summer of 2014 and during my Junior year of high school, I was tutoring my aunt in her math classes. Over the phone I could hear the tears, and with …show more content…
I knew passing this class was important to her, and I wanted to help as much as I could. Realizing that her experiences were different than mine, allowed me to focus on using the tools I had accumulated in school to help her. Instead of getting frustrated when she didn’t understand, I changed and became more patient with her. I learned new techniques that were easier for her to understand, and I adapted my tutoring style to what she needed. I’ve always loved helping people, and being able to recognize other’s dispositional attributions allowed me to help more

Here I am today singing songs about the south-land;because I miss 'ole' 'bamy once again. Years ago I left my home state of Alabama, where the skies are so blue and I moved to the not so great state of Montana. Many people questioned me on why I moved to Montana, and my response back is because in that moment I felt like I needed a change, but in the end I think I made the wrong choice to move away from Alabama. But soon I will be back to sweet home Alabama,oh,Lord, I'm coming home to you. Back in early March of 1974,I was working at a local convenience store.…

Two thousand five hundred eighty-seven. I could take an eight-hour flight or a casual thirty-seven-hour drive, but no matter what, I am still two thousand five hundred eighty-seven miles away from my home in New Haven, Connecticut. Being a college freshman, trying to juggle class, homework, projects, studying, sleeping, eating, and athletics; finding the travel time to go home is an almost impossible task. Add in the cost of the $600 flights round trip and there is no chance a student can go visit home when they feel a little homesick. I on the other hand had never even fathomed being homesick from the frozen tundra I called home.…

It was 1981. I had just graduated from high school, and another four-year commitment to “education” was the last thing I wanted to do. The problem was that all those other things required money, and thus a job. Unfortunately, at that time the country was in a severe recession, and the only state that seemed immunized to it was Texas. I had to make the decision whether to leave my birthplace, my family, and my friends or to pursue a new life and adventure over a thousand miles away.…

I always have followed the saying “if you work hard in life now you will not have to work as hard later.” This saying applies not only to how I work during school now, but how I participate in activities outside of school. To excel in what you want to achieve in life, I believe you need to put in the best effort and try your best in whatever you do. Living by this idea has helped me become a leader in the things I do. It has helped me put others at the same standard as myself and it helps me show my character.…
