My father has several friends that like to go out and try ethnic foods from different restaurants in the metro Detroit area, when my father asked if there was anything worth trying in canton Neehee’s was the first one they mentioned. The food was very good, I got Paneer, Corn and Garlic.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

The pain began slowly, pricking me with its sharp needles only while doing barre in ballet once a week. I ignored it, believing it to be normal, common discomfort that would soon go away, typical thoughts of a dancer whose entire sport is centered around “good pain”. Six months later, it had escalated to the degree that every step I took felt like an arrow to my knee. Dancing had become impossible, and it was determined that I should be taken to the orthopedist. The bland, brown and beige lobby became extraordinarily familiar as I waited two hours to be examined.…

My current health plan is an HMO that features a POS option. I receive health care through my father’s employer from an insurance rider that enables me coverage until I reach the age of 30. As their health plan features shared costs among members, the premium for adding the rider to the group policy is shared by all participants. Our current health insurance plan is through CareConnect, which is a division of Northshore LIJ, which essentially enables me to access all Northwell Health hospitals and outpatient facilities within the health network. Through the POS, I can opt for care outside of my network, though the process requires referrals and features higher premiums.…

The most delightful restaurant in town is the Culver's of Olathe. When walking into the building you are immediately greeted by all of the employees with a friendly hello. While waiting in line, you can hear the hums coming from the retail freezer containing all of the delicious fresh frozen custard, and the occasional laughs of the patrons in the dining room. As I am sitting in one of the intimate booths, I can feel the soft and comfortable seat cushion. Of the few that remain, my favourite has long been Café Military in the Fort district of Mumbai. The Fort area was once thick with establishments that catered to the British army and navy, and Café Military was one such. Opened in 1933 by the father of the current owner, Mr Behram Khosravi, the cafe used to be known for its meat-heavy English dishes. A menu from 1935 sits under Mr Khosravi's work-blunted desk, detailing the bestsellers of the time -- 'Delicious Tongue Dishes', 'Tasteful Liver Dishes', 'Light Meals Of Eggs' and 'Cakes, Ices and Puddings', among others. Customers could choose from dishes such as Boiled Tongue, Mutton Roast and Cold Liver and Salad ("Bread and Butter, extra charges", reads the menu). '…

The sickness that I live with is one that some would find excessively appalling, making it impossible to talk about; so I kept it to a whisper. This sickness I thought was to embarrassing to talk about, making it impossible to seek help, left me feeling alone in the dark. This sickness ruined friendships, without me realizing it. This sickness that made getting out of bed a struggle for me.
