With HOSA, I went out to different nursing homes conversing with patients and throwing them holiday parties. Furthermore, I participated in many different charitable efforts, such as raising money for Cystic Fibrosis, listening to the stories of patients and learning about their interactions with physicians. Through these experiences, I learned more about the different struggles patients and healthcare providers go through. As I began college, I continued my volunteer work in healthcare, volunteering at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital. I love the idea of committing to lifelong learning of the body and healthcare. I am also fascinated by the idea that maybe one day, I will have the skills and background needed to heal people in need. My experiences as an immigrant has also inspired me to work in settings where I can help people considered underserved. In Texas, I want to work in a setting where I can serve those from low-income backgrounds. I also want to use my resources to aid people overseas, especially in Vietnam. My mission to aid the underprivileged in Texas is synergistic with the mission of JAMP to provide socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals with opportunities to pursue medicine. My motivation to apply to the Joint Admissions Medical Program stems from my socioeconomic background, motivation for medicine, and my understanding that JAMP will help me become an excellent clinician. The JAMP Program, through its scholarships and stipends, will help me fund my medical education, which would otherwise be very hard for me to afford. Through the JAMP Program, I can also participate in summer internships throughout college, developing my clinical skills early on.
