Taking Charge of My Life A great world champion racing driver once stated, “Desire is the key to motivation, but its determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal- a commitment to excellence- that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” That quote stuck to me like glue. I decided to create a goal for myself, one that would change my everyday life and later become a lifestyle. It was time for me to make a change for myself. I knew that if I gave up on this goal, it would be as if I was giving up on myself. I didn’t want to become a failure I wanted to become a winner in everything I chose to accomplish. I chose to be healthy, both mentally and physically. I chose to adjust my eating habits, stay in shape and stay positive. When I began changing my eating habits, it was very difficult for me at first. I knew I had to do something about it, and take control of what I ate daily. I thought eating healthy meant eating fruits and salads every day. I was wrong! Rather than eating fruits for breakfast, salads for lunch and dinner, I began to do research about healthy foods. I felt a sea of anxiety deep down. All I knew was that I wanted to do was to be fit, and stay fit. Walking into a building filled with lots of weird machines was tough. I didn’t know if I was using the machines correctly, all I knew how to use was the treadmill. Not only that, but I saw fit men and women who knew exactly what they were doing. They appeared as if they were professional trainers, who trained for a living. I began to watch the men and women who worked out daily, and I began to mimic what they did. It was the only way I could learn. I looked up workouts on the Internet that I could do, but it wasn’t the same as observing someone who knew how to do it.
