Monday was our first practice at the YMCA softball complex. I found my coach and my new teammates they looked way older than me. I noticed my best friend was at the fields I ran up to her and asked “What coach do you have” “Coach salamander” “Cool me and you have the same coach” Then we both walked towards our coach and she said “What are your names and number would you like to be.” “My name is Yazmin and I would like to be number 2”

Like all little kids, I just wanted to get to feel the thrill of getting a hit and running around all of the bases to make it home. At six years old not only was I new to the sport of softball, but also to the girls that were signed up for the team. Prior to living in Brasher Falls and playing softball in North Lawrence, my family lived in Bombay. I have always been very talkative, sociable, and bold, so making friends with the other girls was not an issue for me. Some of the girls that I became friends with through coach pitch and first-sixth grade softball ended up being my teammates while playing basketball and softball all throughout high school.…

Our daily wiffle ball game was about to start. There was a wiffle ball game every evening behind the apartment complex I lived in. The game was played in a luscious green grass field with a monstrous hill in left field. The usual squad was myself, Ricky, Justin, Michael, Jonathon, Latrell, and occasionally Greg but his parents usually make him stay inside and play monopoly or some other dumb board game. Our teams were always different from the last game.…
