I was the only African-American to be accepted into REACH (gifted students) in elementary school at the time and later became the only African-American STEM student at the high school level. I was also accepted into the International Bacculearate program, but had to decline the offer due to family relocating. The dedication and passion towards overcoming adversity and breaking boundaries were also taken to sports with me qualifying for the state swimming championship on both the high school and club level. The determination, perseverance, and enthusiasm that I have developed over years of participation in sports and academics have been transferred to my interest of medicine.
