This organization would come to me for innovative ideas to enhance their program however, they never gave me the credit for coming up with the ideas. Eventually, I left the organization because I felt used and unappreciated. Several of my ideas were transformed into programs that received funding, I would have to change my work schedule to facilitate the new program, but never reap the financial benefits or receive the recognition for my work. The last conflict that caused my separation from the organization stemmed from a program that I had created called the “Saturday Fun Club” this program was actually created as a practicum assignment for a city run program that worked closely with community organizations within “at risk” communities. The “Saturday Fun Club” was created and managed on a budget of only five-hundred dollars but because I think outside of the box I was able to network with existing organizations, universities, and outside entities to offset the cost of certain events and activities as well as to offer additional financial support throughout the …show more content…
We successfully, enrolled roughly 80 participants into the 6-week program. And each week students would engage in activities related to one of more of the principles previously noted. Our participants took turns sharing the responsibility of both cleaning up and preparing meals for the group. We had elders who volunteered to teach drum lessons and life skills, and we took trips to places like the Underground Railroad to introduce the students to the history of African people in America. Needless, to say the city of Philadelphia was impressed with my practicum and I received a citation from the City as well as a plaque for developing such a wonder program.
The city decided that the program needed to continue and awarded me a grant of ten thousand dollars to fund the program. Here is where the conflict developed. The organization decided to change my regular scheduled hours to now include the Saturday Fun Club program and they used roughly 50% of the allotted grant for administrative cost. I had promised my volunteers that they would now be compensated for the time they invested in the program and we would use the additional funds to continue to offer wonderful programming for our
