My First Trip to Mexico

It was one early December morning around 10 am, I receive a phone call from an unsual number. I didnt really recongnize. I answer the phone curiously wondering who it could be "hello..." in response, I get a answer in Spanish "Hola soy tu abela de Mexico, como andas hijo?" (hello I'm your grandmother from Mexico, how are you son?) I'm feeling shocked I haven't spoke with my grandmother since my 10th birthday, The moment sunk in feeling happy and excited. "Hola abuela, estoy bein aqi com mi madre trabajando para la familia con mi padre." ( Hi grandma, I'm fine here with my mother working with my father for my family.) In response "Estoy bein hijo, Resando todos los dias para tu familia. Te estranho hijo, te quiro a verte." ( I'm fine son, praying everyday for your family. I miss you son, I want to see you.) "Tu tia y tio van a Mexico en Dicembre para Navidad. Yo quiro ke vengas." (Your Aunt and Uncle are coming to Mexico for Christmas, I want you to come.) Without hesitation, I accepted the offer. " Si, abuela me gusta la idea. Te voy a visitar." (Yes, grandma I like the idea, Im going to go visit you.) "Bein, te llamo tu tia y tio para desire les ke aceptates." (Good, I'll call your aunt and uncle letting them know you accepted.) "Gracias Abuela, estoy muy emocionado para mira te." (Thank grandma, I'm very excited to see you at last!) It was a early Monday morning I get a text message letting me know we are taking off the next day. I start packing all my needs for my trip, it was probably some of the greatest news I've gotten all day! I'm finally going to get out of town and see something new. We were taking off on a bus that we had to meet in Brownsville so we took off as early as possible. Arriving 45 minutes early I say my goodbyes to my mother and father, soon as our bus arrives we pack our bags on the bus. We were on a bus that was headed to San Luis Potosi, a town where my grandmother is living in. It really didn't take much time to get to the border. Soon as we got to the border, the border patrol officers made us all show them all our passports and proof of citizenship. It really was a hassle just getting out the border for a hour or so... for inspection. I really didn't mind seeing my grandmother would all make it worth my time. The ride was even crazier, I felt like we were going 80 miles per hour through the cliffs of mexico any wrong turn would have ended in such tragedy. Amzaingly eveything turned out good we made it to our destination. Finally landing in San Luis, we head to this amazing resteraunt we all order tacos the were mouth watering "some of the greatest I've tryed" not to forget their beverages to were also great! As we leave the resteraunt, we head to my grandmothers. Soon as we arrive, my grandmother was already

History is known to be created only by the victorious, thus what many thought once was the fabric of history is now the remaining threads placed by the needles of conquerors. History can easily be manipulated by people in power, and silence those who were not successful in standing up for themselves. Individuals need to know how history works before analyzing the results; one needs to revise all the sides of history, from the conquerors to those who were the conquered. In this case, the United Statesians (the victorious), Mexicans (the conquered), and the Texans, were the ones who underwrote most in the, western frontiers, manifest destiny, to the Mexican-American war. Their history, though similar, provides different aspects of how present…

Hernando Cortez was originally from Cuba but he explored Mexico (Central America). He was born into an upper class family, though his parents were not extremely wealthy. His father was Martín Cortez de Monroy and his mother was Catalina Pizarro Altamirano. Through his mother, Hernando was the second cousin to Francisco Pizarro, who conquered the Incan empire in modern-day Peru. In 1506, for his participation in the conquest of Hispaniola and Cuba, Cortez was granted a large estate as well as some native slaves.…

My parents met and married in Mexico City, and a few years later they had me. When I had just turned one, my parents packed up our family, and we traveled thousands of miles to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Then five years after we moved, I became a big sister of twin boys. My family is a mixture of Mexican and American citizens, but we believe in the importance in taking pride of our native culture. My parents made sure that my brothers and I knew Spanish, but they not only made sure we could speak it but they made sure we could read and write it.…

Being a student at one of the most prestigious schools in the United States, you are given amazing classes which teach us various topics which eventually bring us back to our major or main topic of our undergraduate. Being a Mexican student, my knowledge is primarily about the struggles and stories from my own country. Coming to this school and meeting other minorities from other countries and taking classes that teach us about those countries as well, my knowledge about other problems and stories that happen to other students, families, and youth throughout the countries makes us realize that we are all the same and not alone when it comes to tragedies and inequalities like the ones many of us encounter in the US already. Attending "El Pais Que Viene” a Non-Profit Event & Book Launch, allowed me to connect the various topic and stories I learned in my Chicano studies class called “Central Americans” where we discussed the important events and inequalities that are happening throughout these central American countries and looking at stories through literature and media. Living in the Untied States as a minority, we tend to not tell our stories from our countries or even identify ourselves from those countries due to the negative image that the US has towards the people who come from these different countries.…

When I was growing up in Mexico I never thought that one day I would be living in United States of America. Never did I imagine that I would have to learn English either. English was a language that I always wanted to speak and understand, but always seem impossible and a bit foreign to me. I live in a suburban area in San Diego, where violence is heavily decreasing. Although the impacts of gangs and drugs in my neighborhood have subsided, does not necessarily mean that I remained unscathed; I come from a family of nine; four brothers, four sisters (including myself), and one widowed mother. You can imagine how crowded I’ve been all my life. The fact was that this was my reality, living in a crowded home with lingering drugs and marital issues.…
