Startled and fearing the worst, my mother ran to the hallway to find the 4 year old me standing on a chair trying to reach the top of a ledge. With a sigh of relief, she took a closer look and saw the new Lego set my father had bought the day earlier.
That was my first Lego set, the one that kick started my interest in building objects from my young, wild imagination. My father, being a Mechanical Engineer was quite happy with my …show more content…
We decided to create a simulation of a system of 3 robots that would mine ore from Jupiter’s moon – Europa. The Recon bot first scoured the area in search of “ores”, which were colored balls. The coordinates of the ores were transmitted to base, after which a map with the most efficient path was created for The Digger to follow. This bot would then excavate the ore and return it to the base. Finally, the Sorter bot sorted the ores according to the color.
Though we did not win, the competition was an eye opener. It taught me two important things – teamwork and leadership. I learnt to not only assign tasks to members but to also create a sense of coherence and harmony that would bring out the full potential of the team. Moreover, the competition debunked many of the impractical ideas that I had on building and programming the robots.
I plan on taking a double major and envision myself in a field involving both computer and mechanical knowledge such as artificial intelligence in robots. The Lego journey has played an important role in my life and it continues to drive my passion for
