Personal Narrative: Ledge Jumping

Improved Essays

I had been flown 1,500 miles to be a lifeguard for the week. This meant I got to work the blob and see how ministry could be done through telling people to jump off a decently high tower. It’s here where I met Kiera. A forty-foot jump is what separated Kiera from conquering her fear of heights and a soft landing onto the blob. Three years ago, with my encouragement, a friend decided to take a leap and achieve the practically impossible. He fell and broke his left leg. The leap, as suggested by its title, is the story of a mother's leap, both physical and emotional, in the hopes of creating a good life for her family. It is the story of courage and bravery winning over fear. The story mostly takes place in flashbacks, with the trigger incident being the storm during the trapeze act, and the climax the mother deciding to take a leap, literally and figuratively, to save her daughter from the burning building, tying perfectly to the theme, it pays to overcome fear with bravery.…

“I hated it. I never got inured to the jumping. At every meeting the limb seemed higher, thinner, the deeper water harder to reach. Every time, when I got myself into position to jump, I felt a flash of disbelief that I was doing anything so perilous. But I always jumped” (Knowles 34).…
