This I BELIEVE

I believe in setting goals, and in every way possible trying to reach them. One day while working on my computer, an ad popped up about building your own computer. I sat there staring at the computer screen. It made me stop and think for a second. The thought of building a computer just kept running through my mind. I thought about it and decided right then and there, “I am going to build my own computer.” I grabbed a pencil and paper and started writing down all the parts I needed. I had set my goal, and now I started planning what I needed to do to meet my goal.

The first thing I had to do was earn some money to buy the parts. I started doing more chores to make money so I could buy all the components. I would get on my computer and check out ebay to find the best deals on the parts I needed. I always tried, if possible, to get free shipping. I bought the items slowly, so I could see how much it was going to cost me, without actually spending a whole bunch of money at once. As I received each component, I slowly began to

It was finally coming together. I realized that I had slowly built my own computer. When the last parts came in, I put them in the computer, put everything back together, and carried the computer to my room. A few minutes later as I was setting it up, I got sort of nervous, “What if it didn’t work?” I turned it on, and it started loading. I sat there watching the screen, and finally it came up like all new computers do. I was so excited, and I had a great feeling of accomplishment.I had achieved my goal. I had built my own computer at fourteen years old. As I finished entering what the computer software wanted to know, I realized right then and there I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I would like to be a computer science engineer. I also realized that what I enjoyed and wanted as a career could not have been discovered without me building my own

Many factors come into place when it's time to replace or upgrade one's computer. I have had three laptops over the duration of five years that needed replacement, and the one I currently use that needs to be replace. Prior to transitioning to the online setting I never really paid attention to the signs. Things had gotten so bad that my computer screen began to separate from my keyboard though still able to function. However, now I have to be a lot more cautious as a online student.…

I want to be a teacher, but that was not what I was planning to be when I was applying to colleges. I was originally in the Nursing program, but changed to education after my freshman year at Keene State. One of my advisors in high school had said that he saw me as a teacher and I said I didn’t want anything to do with teaching because I saw what the long hours were like. It is funny how things have changed. Now, I cannot wait to be a teacher and have a positive impact on my students.…

Becoming a historian or a writer would be silly since I am good at math and science and it’s something I like. I established a 15 hour technology fast from Saturday 10 PM to 1 PM Sunday morning. I selfishly chose this time frame because I knew that any other time during the week would be nearly impossible to accomplish. Since, I am indebted to my technological devices to complete assignment, manage my schedule, and meet required responsibilities. In addition, I chose to include sleeping hours because it would cut a majority of the time that I would be without technology. However, I did not want to fully exclude myself from this social experiment, therefore, I extended the hours.…

I set my goal to try and get us out of what we lived through and get us out of that situation. We had to move from stop light to stop light and ask for money. Even though with the money we have saved up, we used to buy ourselves food and a water bottle each. This goal was really significant to me because we lived through so much that people couldn’t even imagine how terrible and crazy it was to survive. I set that dream because I didn’t want to live like that forever.…

I have always been interested in technology and how it works. Whenever I would get a new technological device, I would instantly start playing with it and figure out everything it is capable of. I also enjoy helping other people figure out how to make their electronics work; even if it is something as simple as explaining to my grandparents why one text message is green instead of blue. I also really enjoyed a summer camp where I learned how to program a computer game and program a robot to go through a maze.…

Learning the basics (as I did) certainly isn’t very time consuming nor does it take the brain of a computer genius to learn, but is extremely useful in today’s world. All in all, I can say that this little project of mine opened my eyes to a newfound, practical…

Sarah greeted me at the front desk then showed me to my cubicle. It was a pretty little corner with every tool you could imagine to fix a computer; the only thing that was missing was my computer. When I enquired about that, Sarah beamed at me and said “well that is your first task, to build your own computer, then start using it.” I gulped, before asking where the computer was. She pointed to it in a little corner and left me on my own to start work.…
