Personal Narrative: Go To Public School

Improved Essays
My family and I had to make the hardest decision if I were to stay home schooled, or go to public school. I really wanted to go to public school, but a small part of me wanted to stay home schooled because I thought I wasn't ready to bring on that big of a challenge. Big school with lots of kids, teachers, rooms, and lockers are all different and new for me. Lockers is the biggest one for me because I have never ever in my life had a locker before. Friends is another one because I know a lot of people that go to Foothills, but I knew there will be pumps along the way. I was excited, and extremely scared for the first day of school to see what would happen. Oh my gosh! The first day of school had actually come and as I was walking into …show more content…
I was excited to meet all my teachers and fellow students, but also scared because I heard that the teachers that I had gave out a lot of homework. I walked into iperiod, which I found out was like a study hall as I looked around at all the talking kids looking for someone that I knew. Nope, I didn't know anyone in that class! This gave me a small heart attack inside. Then, I met Mr. Carvitto and I thought to myself "wow I love this guy, he's so funny and energetic." In that class we got our lockers and combinations. I was so excited to see what it was like to have a locker. I got a bottom locker which, I heard, wasn't good and if you found someone with a top locker but wanted to have a bottom locker, switch with them because top lockers are better than …show more content…
I had second lunch with people I didn't know, and I had to figure out who to sit with. After everyone ate, they would go outside to play four square, basketball, soccer, and football. There were also a lot of kids who just walked around and talked. After lunch, I had math with Mr. Duffy and I walked into class so nervous I could barely move my legs because I am not good at math even being home schooled and I just knew that public school math would be even harder.

Mr. Duffy introduced himself, and the class as he went over more rules and the idea of what we would be learning first. It seemed hard when I first heard it but I knew that he would help me out with things I didn't understand and didn't know. Lastly, I had PE with Mr Hurst who I actually didn't really meet until later in the week because Mrs. Reece gave us our PE lockers and combinations where we would keep our PE clothes which took us forever to get because there are so many girls. After that, she introduced the class and explained more rules and sort of explained what we were gonna do

I wasn't excited because I knew it was just another event for families and it was going to be packed in that gym. As I reluctantly marched in with my classmates I saw my parents and brother sitting in the seats taking pictures and smiling, while everyone else had people yelling every way to look at them I could focus on the three most important people in my life. It was then I realized how fortunate I was, I got to have a great life in a beautiful state with my family. It wasn't chaotic most of the time because there was so many of us, we could do so much more with it just being us, and through this my parents taught me that while it may be hard being on your own it's worth it. Not knowing anyone also made me a more outgoing person because I had to meet everyone and make new friends, most of my classmates already knew people because they're all related, but I got to know everyone in a different way.…

It was the beginning of high school, the start of a new chapter in my life; after coming into the school, the mall looked like the feeding of the five thousand. St. Thomas More has over a thousand students, and every single one was there on that first day, trying to find the way to their new classes just like me. Walking through the halls of St. Thomas More with the unfamiliar smell of the classrooms reminded me of what lies ahead. I thought it was going to be difficult, because I wouldn’t see anyone I know. Fortunately, some of my old friends from St. Pius were in my gym class, so I was glad that I would not be alone in gym class.…

A person’s individual experience with high school very different depending on where you grew up I was not a student who attended public school high school like most students who I have met in my college experience, I attended Catholic high school. I have heard so many bad things of catholic schooling, that it is easier than public school and our parents are just rich and that is why attend almost “private” schools. Catholic schools need to be recognized for that they have allowed students to do in their short time. Catholic School allowed me to express my faith, with no judgment and make friends from different school districts besides my own.…

In Plato’s story, The Allegory of the Cave, there is a group of people who are living in a cave. When one person escapes, he comes back to the cave to tell the people about the amazing experiences they could enjoy if they would muster the courage to step out of the cave to experience something new, but the people were too afraid to leave the comfort of their cave. Like the people in this story, I too had a cave I was comfortable in; that cave was my elementary school, St.Brendan Catholic School. After graduating from St.Brendan I was excited but also nervous to be moving I was comfortable at St.Brendan because it felt like a second home to me. My older sisters went to school there and my mom started teaching there before I could even walk and I have been a member of the St.Brendan Church family since birth.…

so it was a free period for me. I was so anxious about high school, but I had never thought about the amount of work that I would have to do. The class did not even realize that I was a new student until the teacher asked if I knew where I was going next and shockingly, there were no blank stares. That was unlike my other experiences I was not expecting that, but I would not have wanted it any other way. Twenty minutes of my anxiousness passed when the bell rang.…
