AUDIENCE RELEVANCY STATEMENT We live in a state where diversity is what makes our California culture. So talking about gentrification and letting people know why it is that sometimes we have to “remodel” the places that have been culturally based and “upgrade” them to a more modern living way.
CREDIBILITY STATEMENT I come from San Diego and in major parts of San Diego there is a big impact of Mexican/Chicano culture, and at this moment are now trying to remove our Chicano Park. I want people to understand what happens when communities get gentrified.

a. According to PBS: Flag Wars, gentrification is, “a general term for the arrival of wealthier people in an existing urban district, a related increase in rents and property values, and changes in the district’s character and culture.” [1]
i. Basically, they take a lower-income community and try to clean it up so there can be more opportunities to make the economy increase
b. Gentrification is a way to build up a community and by doing this the area’s value goes up.
i. However, it is mostly seen as a negative term, since people see it as rich people kicking out poor out their communities ii. iii. “For better or worse, gentrification changes the culture of a place.” [5]

a. More job opportunities mean unemployment rate drops; people are getting hired.
b. Since there are new shops set up, the implied property tax, which will increase, will allow funding for the local public schools to increase as well.

However, like many positives things with the economy there are negative impacts as well.
VII. Even if there are new arrivals of a greater and better community, in the bigger picture gentrification is the reason why the lower-income residents are forced to leave their homes.

VIII. Big popular cities are the ones that are always getting modify to adapt to the future and improve, but it is in those cities that the culture that is there is getting taken
