There are variety of dating apps and websites out in our technology world, some are made for people to find a similar core value that connects to their morals. For example, Christian Mingle was designed for people with similar faiths to connect who believe that Christianity is a big part of their life. Some people claim these sites work while others believe they don’t. Beck believes “technology has [not] distracted us from real human connection.” A big issue that online dating apps and sites have is what are the individual’s intentions? Some people have very different reasons on why they are on the site to begin with such as looking for a long-term relationship or wanting a "hookup." Studies have shown that the more work you put in, the more it will pay off. Your profile picture and your profile are what people see and base their first impressions off of. Experts say your profile picture should be a "selfie" so there is no confusion on who’s profile it is, and there should be three to five pictures otherwise the person looking at your profile may feel overwhelmed by too many or too little (Greene, 2010). When it comes to your profile information, it is important to remember that if “you are afraid that it might be taken the wrong way, it’s probably best to not post it” (Greene, 2010). You want to try to make your profile as engaging filled with details that will set you apart from other people. There are many ideas that people have that can make an online relationship work. Researchers found “online daters have better success when they send personal messages to the people they are interested in, rather than generic emails” (Ghose, 2015). Researchers found that you have a better success rate if you are direct and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to be funny, and give genuine compliments. Once you have multiple good conversations over the dating site and you feel comfortable with the individual you are talking to, is when it is okay to make the next step and exchange
