It all began in July of 2010, on a show called The X Factor. This is a British competition television show, where contestants come and audition to hopefully make it on to become famous. All the members of One Direction originally auditioned to be solo artists. When they didn’t make it through the first round, Nicole Scherzinger called them back and told them they would become a group. The band did not win, but finished in third place at the finals. Simon Cowell believed they had potential and signed the band to his record label. This is where One Direction began to rise to stardom from there on. …show more content…
It was released in July of 2015 without any promotions or announcement. The release of “Drag Me Down” gave people a sense of what they sound like. This single did not include ex band member, Zayn Malik, and it showed that they can continue on with just the four members. The album without a doubt became number one. It was during this time of promotion where the band announced that they will be going on a hiatus in 2016. Band member, Louis Tomlinson stated that the break will be about or around eighteen months long. They performed a single off of “Made in the A.M” in December of 2015. This ultimately became the band's last performance together as a band before their break officially started (Maglio). All in all, the band has produced and written five albums together. All the albums have had successful sales and ratings, making the top charts for weeks. They've broken many records with singles and downloads. Still today, sales climb and from their most recent album, there are over 3,500,000 copies sold worldwide. Each year for the last five years, it's noted that the band has released albums every November. This year will be the first year the band is not releasing a project
