As lone workers in the community empowerment is very important as allows workers to feel in control of their task and having a sense of power as they make a lot of autonomous decisions without having someone to always confer with. In addition, Nurse E reflected on her feelings and actions and how they could affect her team. For example, when one patient lied that they were house bound and could not come to the surgery when they were spotted out shopping and Nurse E felt angry as the resources could go to a patient who really needed it. Having self-awareness, allows leaders to think of their own feelings and actions and how they can impact on their team using her emotional intelligence nurse E was able to address the issue calmly with other members of her team as she knew how other team members felt about patients that were able to come to the surgery but chose not to and how they could protest on visiting the patient again. However, Whitehead et al, (2009) argues that this style of leadership is more suited for highly skilled and motivated stuff. This was not the case as the team imitated their leaders approach to work and several problems were witnessed in practice. Having the freedom to make decisions on which areas to cover and patient to see left many patients without care and some experienced poor quality of care as the staff that was usually left with no choice did not provide the best of care. This was evident as morning patients were not provided with insulin on some days as the allocation of tasks was left to the Healthcare assistants who did not have appropriate delegation skills and poor care plans and nursing assessment were not done properly. Ellis (2015), suggest that an important skill that is needed by a leader among many and foremost is
