I belief that all nurses are working as leaders and act as agents for change, because they are working to develop the health of patients and maintain optimal health status. For my situation that I worked as a leader and agent for change, I worked on day medical unit and this unit has many admitted patients. This unit is assists in the care and diagnosis of patients from many specialty medical departments. Also, this unit is provide many procedures and treatment for most chronic conditions. Day medical unit is usually suffered from nursing staff shortage which impacted on the care outcomes. One day with excites of many patients, one of nursing staff got sick and leaved the unit while the head nurse in meeting at another unit. However, I did …show more content…
This theory is focus on three concepts of management: relationship behavior, task behavior, and maturity level of the worker (McEwen, 2014). Relationship behavior is how much emotional support the leader can give to the workers. In this situation, I gave a lot of support to the nursing staff in order to keep nursing care to all patients in the unit. Task behavior is the amount of orders and directions the leader provides to the worker to ensure a particular goal or task is completed (McEwen, 2014). In this situation, I talked with nursing staff and head nurse several times to ensure that all patients are receiving their treatment. This theory believes that relationship behavior and task behavior are related to maturity level of the worker (McEwen, 2014). The second theory that could be applied to my situation is Path-Goal Theory. This theory is focus on three expectations of the leader: provide the appropriate direction to the workers, assist workers to identify goals and provide motivation and reward (McEwen, 2014). However, in my situation, I discussed the nursing goals for the patients and provide them some documentations which help them. Also, I explained to them the reward and will get paid for the extra
