Throughout history, there has been a great amount of development with cities. With what started out as small pockets of communities now stands as enormous developments, shown through amazing technological advancements and the brilliant minds of urban planners, architects, engineers and more.
An excellent example of a majorly developed city is Chicago, Illinois. Rent Café had published an article about the changes Chicago has gone through in a series of photos, illustrating in an excellent way the development the city has gone through.
One of the first few photos within this article is a comparison of Navy Pier. The photos were taken in 1984 and 2013, respectively. The photo from 1984 was taken from Wikipedia user Louvee while the 2013 photo was taken from a blog called Tradeshows and Displays. Originally called Municipal Pier, the construction of this structure was completed in 1916, with the original purpose of a freight dock, with a small allocation of space used for the public. After being renamed in 1927 after the First World War and going through a series of changes for its use, the Pier now serves as a social, entertainment and retail hub for the people.

Today, the neighborhood houses the University of Illinois Chicago campus along with several medical centers. Looking between the two photos, this street has changed in a number of ways, the most obvious one being that the street has adapted to the modern day. From the style of the buildings to the materials used, are just a few indicators pointing to the evolution of the city. The styles of the roads have also changed, adapting to the different styles of cars and to growing
