Throughout the story, O’brien seems to gain trust and courage in his writing and in his audience of young adults.. “The Things They Carried” describes the Vietnam experience and focuses on and prepares O’brien to discuss emotional issues and not just physical or environmental.…

The narrator tells the reader about his actions, the words he says, and even what he thinks as he relays what happened to him, a stranger he encounters, and an innocent young man. A suspenseful story will want the reader to continue the story to find the ending of the book, or in our case, A short story. One reason for using third person limited is to know and only care about the protagonist's feelings. Point of View The story is told from a Third-Person-Limited point of view because its told with words like, she, they, her and Parvana, and it only reveals Parvana’s thoughts or feelings.
