By using the third person he is able to really draw the reader in by giving various different points of view of the world and events that take place within the novel. For example one character might think or interpret something completely different than another character. This adds depth to the world and story that Hemingway presents to the reader. As stated already, this is a very character based novel. That is why the use of the third person is so important. If it was not told in the third person the novel, at least in my opinion, would feel incomplete and lacking. It would feel as if everything was simply centered around one thing and the reader was not getting the full picture.
