Nacireman Observation Of A Skateboar

There are many hobbies and activities Nacireman citizens participate in for enjoyment when not working or otherwise occupied by demands of the culture. One of the strangest activities and subcultures observed is based around the use of a self-propelled plank of wood on wheels. Both children and adults participate in the use of these planks they call "skateboards" as a mean of transportation and fun. Beyond the common use of this technology for transportation there are many who use the planks to perform various technical maneuvers. The activity appears borderline masochistic as most of these attempts would result in injury yet they would happily continue trying. The plank riders or “skateboarders” that I observed appeared to have a religious …show more content…
Skating offers freedom in allowing skaters to create something out of nothing. Musician and former skater, Ian Mackaye, summarizes this common mindset about skating in saying, “Skateboarding is not a hobby. And it’s not a sport. Skateboarding is a way of learning how to redefine the world around you. It’s a way of getting out of house, connecting with other people, and looking at the world through different sets of eyes.” This new set of eyes mentioned will turn a common sidewalk on the street into hours of creative fun. The activity grants a new perspective on how much you can interact with the environment that surrounds you. One of the most attractive aspects of the activity is the lack of any official rules or guidelines defining it. While many aspects of Nacireman culture dictate the guidelines of how to live, skaters of all ages are encouraged to skate how they want, where they want, and with whoever they want. Serge Savard’s famous “Spin o Rama” could easily be compared to a pirouette done by a ballerina. One could infer that Savard’s spin is even harder than a pirouette as a ballerina “does not have a so-called goon chasing after him” (159) at a speed of 40 kilometres an hour. Would it be offensive to say that the movements of hockey players are the inspiration for new movements in ballet? Well, some of you may be asking, how does this have anything to do with the development of our identity? Paul Henderson’s inclusion of this comparison highlights the significance of hockey in Canada as a stepping stone to the progression of other art forms.…

As teenagers growing up in Powder Springs, Georgia during the 1980’s, it was somewhat challenging at times to find safe and entertaining ways to occupy our time. Even though we did not have free reign to do as we chose, I would not categorize my parents as extremely strict. Relying on our parents, as if they were our personal taxi service, my sister and I struggled to find activities relatively close to home. After discovering we really enjoyed skating, we spent countless Friday and Saturday nights at the Sparkles Skating Rink in Paulding County. The indoor facility was a safe environment for teenagers, which provided my parents with a certain level of comfort to allow us to gather with friends.…

Sai I feel perfectly content at Earl Bales Snowboard Park, a winter haven amid the concrete forest of uptown Toronto, and a perennial gathering ground for fifteen-year-old angry youths. Outside of school and home, it is the place where I have spent the most of my life. Its landscape is so familiar, I could navigate all its crests and troughs with a blindfold over my eyes. Much of what I learned in life, I learned here.…

The setting of this story is probably during the early 21st century because Tate’s family owns several computers which before the 21st century were very expensive and not well developed. Tate as we already know lives in Spokane, Washington home to one of the most “biggest, deepest, craziest skate bowl” (5) he believes. Other than seeing those at my school who I wouldn’t associate our backgrounds to carrying similar components, Fowler Park was the frequent destination for my friends and I at the time, where most of our summers were spent at the skatepark. My lust to continuously go everyday conjured an issue, as on a day that had rained in the morning my fate encountered an unfortunate accident. On this fateful summer day, puddles filled the lower sections of the skatepark. But before I put the connection that rubber wheels on a Penny Board would hydroplane on water, Austin, one of my friends who I ventured to Fowler Park almost daily, lent me his Penny Board. On my way to restore the rightful ownership of the Penny Board, I crossed through the lower section of the park, believing it…
