It is a sport unlike any other because it may be the only sport where willingness to work hard pays off more than innate talent; you get exactly out of it whatever you put into it. That’s what I loved about cross country; it’s not based on luck or if mommy and daddy buy you the best equipment or if you’re the coach’s favorite, it’s all about dedication, setting goals, and knowing what it takes to achieve those goals. Cross country taught me a lot of important life lessons that help me stand out as a millennial, but most of all it taught me that having a plan, sticking to it, and hard work is much more rewarding than relying on luck and hoping things get handed to …show more content…
I plan on majoring in communications, and even the part time jobs I have held have been practice for my future career I want to pursue in public relations. When I was 16 I got a job as a lifeguard and I recently got promoted to a management position as a head guard, and in addition to that I accepted a job as a hostess at a restaurant. So I am currently working two jobs while also taking 16 hours of college classes, and I feel like this doesn’t only demonstrate my work ethic but it shows my dedication and decisiveness towards my future. Both of these jobs make me deal with the public, but in very different ways that I feel help prepare me for a future in public relations. As a lifeguard I am an authoritative figure, even more so as a head guard, so I am constantly having to tell people what to do, especially adults so I’ve had practice being direct and disciplinary while staying professional. On the other hand, as a hostess I am a servant to the customers. It is my job to be polite, positive, and easy to work with. I have to deal with many less than satisfied customers and it is my duty to fix any and all issues efficiently and with a smile on my face. I feel as though I go above and beyond with both of my jobs, and I plan to do the same in the future career I choose. I know I will thrive in public relations and it is
