Personal Narrative: My Personal Experience At Slippery Rock University

Improved Essays
As the semester comes to a conclusion, so far I have been very satisfied with my performance thus far here at Slippery Rock University. Being in college has really given me the opportunity to meet so many new people that have been able to positively impact in such a big way. May it be through helping me study for exams or just a great group of friends that I can go hang out with. Don’t get me wrong there most definitely has been some rocky moments here and there but I feel that I really pushed through those moments and have made the best out of them. With the time that I have been here I’ve been able to set many personal, academic, and professional goals and even have been able to evaluate my own leadership skills through the FYRST Seminar …show more content…
Many of the personal goals that I set at the beginning of this semester have become somewhat different and I actually achieved a small portion of them. As I came into college I thought that I would have very difficult time with making new friends and socializing with my peers around me. But to my surprise I was actually pretty decent at it, with that being said one of the goals that I had set for myself was to “Make friends.” Currently I have many different people in my life that weren’t there before, whether it be all the people that live on the floor in my residence hall and even many of my classmates have all had super big impacts on my life. Another goal that I had set for myself was to be more open-minded when it came to going out and trying new things. I think that I have done a pretty job at doing so, I have been to going to many different events. For example I have attended things that I would have never done in the past, that being the Paranormal Rock club here at Slippery Rock. I had also set a goal to be able to play the acoustic guitar by the end of the semester. Sadly I had not been able to achieve that goal quite yet but I have a plan on doing. The plan consists of me trying to either find a person on campus that will be able to teach the ways of it or finding a guitar lesson class also on campus. One of the goals that I would also like to achieve is to …show more content…
Getting in a good paying job is probably the most important goal that I have in the professional category this far. I think that I will be able to achieve this goal but finding a decent internship and really just branching myself out there to show my true talents to all the wonder news stations and paper companies. Tying into the job category, I really would like to find a job either working for The New York Times writing articles or working for CNN as either a News Anchor or work on the articles that the anchors will be announcing. I hope to achieve this goal by making my SRU internship in the summertime either through a big name magazine in the New York City or even being able to work for CNN for the summer whether it be for money or experience. As a student I also hope to be able to work professionally with some of the big name stars, either interviewing them for paper or

The view from the top of Vernon Hill, a low-income neighborhood in Worcester, MA, is reflective of both of my lineage and my current identity with aspirational career goals. It is also the scene in the opening paragraph of my book that connects my family history with my professional ambitions. My personal story inspires my academic hopes of becoming a lawyer who fights for the underprivileged and helps create access to educational opportunities for them. As Irish immigrants with limited money and no education, my great-grandparents moved to a three-decker house on Vernon Hill.…

As a first time student attending Spokane Falls Community College, I honestly thought that the only buildings and areas of campus involving my class schedule would be of importance. Little did I know that one room I would encounter would become my safe haven. I remember the first day stepping out onto campus and all I saw was a giant riddle waiting to be solved so many parking spaces, buildings, rooms, classes, and students. The anticipation bubbling up inside of me was exciting and rooted with a little nervousness. I was searching for place to keep me focused on my goal of being a successful student, a place to refresh between rigorous lectures.…

In High-School being six foot six inches it was a given I would play basketball. I spent three years on the varsity basketball team with having the privilege of being a Captain my senior year. Hamilton took me by surprise. I knew it was a small liberal arts college, but I had no grasp on how unique and genuine the community was. So many people said hi to my tour guide, Emily, as she showed me around -- including the line cook in the dining hall! I also heard how a student emailed 10 alumni to help her with something, and all of them replied to her. This kind of close-knit, loving family is what I want in a college experience.…

One decision—more like a hilarious joke taken seriously—altered the future of my academic career. While sitting with a group of friends in the student center on the day of the Student Government elections, I thought, “Oh hey, wouldn’t it be funny if I wrote my name in on the ballot”? I got several peers in on this “prank”; we cast our votes, laughed, and thought nothing of it. Two weeks later, I was called in for an interview by the newly elected president. In retrospect, I realize my true motive and how much I actually toyed with the idea of being on the executive board; I knew I could rise to the occasion, and how ludicrous it would be to throw away my shot at making a lasting impression on the student body at Sandhills Community College.…

It was the twenty-third of October in the year of 2014 at exactly 2:15 P.M. the day was so far very beautiful as I went to Lamar’s University’s Geology building in room 101. When I walked in, it looked like a lecture room that I would have expected to see most of my college life. It bolstered my anxiety for college to new heights as I became worried about my future; I prayed that this presentation that Dr. Beth Anderson was doing would help me feel positive or “Thinking Optimistically” for my life here at Lamar University. By the time, I had found a place to sit in the lecture room, which had rows of seats in front of me that were in what I call “Stairwell Formation,” the lecture rooms doors began to close. This gave me the signal that the presentation was about to begin, as I waited to see what was going to happen next I looked around the room to see who the rest of the audience was.…

In developing my personal philosophy of educational leadership I was able to focus on what qualities I already posses to be a successful leader.
